Sizzle & Spritz: A Summer BBQ

Sizzle & Spritz: A Summer BBQ the doTERRA Way

June 17, 20253 min read

Hey, it’s Ronai!

Nothing says summer like the smell of something sizzling on the grill, laughter in the backyard, and citronella candles fighting a losing battle against the bugs.

😅

But what if we could level-up your summer BBQs with natural, safe, and super-effective essential oil tips that keep your vibe high and your skin bite-free?

Grab your sunscreen and a glass of MetaPWR Recharge—this blog’s got your back.

🍊

Essential Oil Safety in the Summer Sun

Let’s start with a PSA: Citrus oils + sun = not your friend.

Oils like Wild Orange, Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit, and Bergamot are photosensitive, which means they can increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Using them on your skin before sun exposure can lead to burns or discoloration.

Ronai’s rule of thumb:

🟠

Use citrus oils in your diffuser or in a roller on areas covered by clothing.

🟠

If you’re applying them topically, wait at least 12–18 hours before hitting the sun.

🟠

Love the scent of citrus? Try diffusing Citrus Bliss + Spearmint in your kitchen while prepping for your cookout!

Bye Bye, Bugs! Natural Bug Repellent that Works

Nothing ruins a summer night faster than mosquitos who think you are the buffet.

🤦‍♀️

DIY Bug-Off Spray
In a 2 oz glass spray bottle:

  • 20 drops Terrashield

  • 5 drops Peppermint

  • 5 drops Lemongrass

  • 5 drops Lavender

  • Fill with witch hazel + a splash of fractionated coconut oil

Shake and spray on exposed skin (avoid eyes!). Terrashield is doTERRA’s outdoor blend and it smells WAY better than chemical sprays.

🧢

Pro tip: Spray on hats, socks, and camp chairs too!

Want your patio pest-free? Diffuse TerraShield, Lemongrass, or Cedarwood outside, or add a few drops to cotton balls and tuck them near doorways or under tables.
